The Granite City
I’ve been living in Aberdeen for nearly two years and have finally decided to check out the local vintage shops! Fashion in Aberdeen is a little more subdued than in the bigger cities in Scotland so I wasn’t sure what to expect. There are a lot of secondhand charity shops but not many actual vintage shops. But the ones I did find were really lovely!
First up is The Closet which was a surprise find. It’s packed full of vintage dresses, hats, shoes, beaded bags and jewellery. I even spotted a pair of roller skates! It’s two rooms and is overwhelming for a first visit, however, I’m looking forward to going back for another look. The owner is lovely and I’m also a fan of the angel wings on the wall outside. 31 Jopp’s Lane, Aberdeen.
The Dress Agency was another great find! They sell a wide range of preowned dresses, shoes, and bags, from high street to designer. The clothes are immaculate and perfect for anyone looking for a beautiful wedding guest or summer party outfit. The shop is on a busy road, but it is calm and peaceful inside. 129 Holburn Street, Aberdeen.
McCalls has a beautiful selection of vintage and secondhand jewellery, from Tiffany bracelets to Edwardian rings and cufflinks. They also stock some newer pieces, including lab diamonds. If you can’t make it into town, the website is good, too. 11 Bridge Street, Aberdeen.
For anyone planning a sustainable wedding, try Heritage Boutique for your dress. They sell preowned wedding dresses and mother-of-the-bride outfits. Secondhand wedding dresses have come on leaps and bounds since the days of the dodgy one in the Oxfam shop. Nowadays, it’s possible to go and try them on in a pretty boutique, as if you were buying something new. They also sell ex-sample stock and accessories. 141 Crown Street, Aberdeen.
I hope these vintage shopping tips for Aberdeen are helpful. If you have any others, I would love to hear them!
