Secondhand Clothes First: A favourite Winter Outfit

‘One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.’ Or woman in this case.

The coat, jumper and skirt I’m wearing here are all secondhand. And if you have been reading here for a while, you’ll probably have seen these clothes before. The skirt features here from two years ago, the jumper and coat are both shown here from 2018. And a lot in between! I’ve worn these clothes many times, and they are still as good as new. I prefer not to buy fast fashion even secondhand, the quality and fit aren’t always that great, and it’s usually not that more expensive to buy better quality preloved.

Generally, it doesn’t occur to me that the clothes have been worn before. The majority of vintage and secondhand clothes that I wear are in good condition. I refuse to buy anything that looks worn out because what’s the point? The preloved clothing market is saturated, contrary to what the media say. Clothes are lying on the streets here in Berlin; I don’t think we will run out of secondhand options anytime soon.

The coat was bought preloved from eBay, silk skirt and cashmere jumper both from Oxfam. The bag is handmade in Germany and can be found here.
