Linen comes from the flax plant; a plant that blooms a beautiful blue flower lasting only a couple of days. While the beauty of the plant is fleeting, it transforms into an aspirational fabric which has been valued for many years. It may be the oldest textile in the world, with its appeal rising and falling with the times. Linen is much more durable than cotton and won’t pill. It is resistant to stains and practical to wear.

Flax is an environmentally friendly crop which requires little irrigation and energy to process. Chemical fertilisers and pesticides can be kept to a minimum if the plant is rotated annually. In terms of buying locally and transportation, Europe still grows flax, with production in Ireland, France, Belgium and The Netherlands among others. The finish of linen varies in terms of how smooth it is. Generally, the fabric takes dye well, so there is a range of colours available, with the option of dying naturally too.

A big fan of linen dresses, I’ve recently been converted to linen skirts too. So I’ve put together this list of my favourite linen skirts to showcase just how beautiful they can be!

Linen Skirts

Magic Linen

A linen wrap skirt is a summer staple, I’ve decided. This linen skirt from Magic Linen goes with everything in my wardrobe and is so comfy to wear. Moreover, it has pockets, yes pockets that actually hold things. The linen is lightweight and yet heavyweight enough to stay put on the windy days. It’s beautifully made in Lithuania using Oeko-Tex certified linen. They recently changed to compostable packaging. I’ve chosen black, but it’s also available in lots of other colours.

Not Perfect Linen

A simple and easy to wear linen skirt with an elastic waist and pockets.

OffOn

OffOn creates linen clothes in Lithuania with care. This stripey skirt is a joy, however, if it’s too bold, it comes in virtually any other colour possible.

Linen Handmade Studio

Linen skirts don’t have to be flowy with this being a smarter option for the office. It is handmade in Lithuania with sizing up to a US18.

Linen Fox

An oversized midi linen skirt handmade in Lithuania.

Lina Kraun

Handmade in Lativa using OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified European linen. This midi skirt with buttons and pockets is available in fifteen different colours and up to a size XL.

Zyle Apparel

An elegant skirt, handmade in Lithuania.

Linen Fairy Tales

This brand has a large selection of linen skirts to choose from, but this is a favourite for sure with defined Wuthering Heights vibes. Handmade in Bulgaria, it comes in lots of sizes up to a 5XL.

Pavietra

This long wrap skirt is handmade to order in a choice of twenty gorgeous colours.

Veryan

A beautiful skirt made from ethically sourced linen from a family-run weaver in Kerala. It’s lined with organic bamboo silk and produced in London.

Beaumont Organic

A beautiful skirt, ethically made in Portugal with 100% linen.

Linen Old Ways

I love a pleated mini, and this is the first time I’ve seen in done in linen. I would ask for it to be made with without the tag at the front though!

Kinzzza

I love how rumpled the texture of the linen is with Kinzzza’s imagery. However, it wouldn’t have to be worn this way in real life. Drying linen flat or even ironing it provides a much smoother look.
