Lucy & Yak are known for their dungarees, which come in all varieties of beautiful colours up to a size UK22. The brand started in New Zealand and are now UK based. They have a team in the UK and India and pledge to always pay a living wage.
Thought Clothing also sells clothing up to a women’s size 18 and men’s XXL. They use many sustainable fabrics, including organic cotton, linen, bamboo, tencel, hemp wool and recycled polyester. (For more recycled polyester, try recycled fleece favourites.) Thought focuses on basics and also has more fashion-led pieces with some great prints. They are also members of The Ethical Fashion Forum.
If you are in Germany or indeed if you speak German (it’s still possible to order even if you don’t.) Then head to Hessnatur. They have selected sizes up to a women’s EU48 (UK 20) and a men’s EU size 56. They have a vast selection of clothes to choose from and specialise in sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton and modal.
A sustainable and ethical brand with the most beautiful clothes, many are available up to size XXL.
Kitty Ferreira is a British brand that produces the most gorgeous clothes up to a UK size 26. It is also possible to have something custom made if preferred as the pieces are all made in the UK. They source all fabrics in the UK and use eco dye using pomegranate, onion skins and other herbal dyes. Kitty Ferreira wants to portray that plus size sustainable fashion doesn’t have to be hippy and can, of course, be sophisticated.
Sea Salt offer a full range of plus size clothing in sizes up to UK 28. They are known for their colourful prints and have some great coats too. I’m currently coveting a raincoat that actually has a hood, which is harder to find than you would think. Prices are reasonable too and they currently stock in Marks and Spencer which makes it easy to pop down and try on.
Gudrun Sjödén showcases a wide variety of plus size sustainable fashion up to a UK size 22. Sustainable fibres make up 93% of the garments at Gudrun Sjödén. They have a code of conduct they use to help protect the workers who make the garments. However, the best thing (I think) is that they use their eco-labels to help showcase the most environmentally sustainable clothes as well as the strictest audited manufactured items.
Amamiko vintage-inspired dresses are produced with oeko-tex cotton in the most fantastic selection of colours and prints. They prove plus-sized sustainable fashion doesn’t have to be boring. The dresses are sewn in Copenhagen up to a dress size EU56 (UK28.) The website is in Danish but is due to be updated to include English soon.
Joanie is now B Corp certified and sells beautiful clothes up to a size UK size 24 – 26. I especially love some of their dress designs but they are the place to go if you just need a new t-shirt too. I love the ‘Shop By Edit’ tab at the top, it has some great search options. For example, shopping by era or season. Pricing is reasonable, I’ve just spotted a recycled polyester velvet green jumpsuit for £85. In each item description, it gives you a rundown of the sustainable facts.
