Vegan Nail Varnish – The Best Brands

I’ve been making the change to vegan and cruelty-free beauty for years. I used to stay away from vegan nail varnish, I have memories of it chipping after a day of wear and it always seemed to lack pretty colours. Anyway, I’ve been testing vegan and cruelty nail varnish for the past six months and found the formulations are brilliant. Most brands I tried are also free from the worst harmful chemicals found in traditional nail varnish. So better for nail beds, our lungs and the environment. Here are my six favourite eco, vegan and cruelty-free nail varnish brands.

Nail Kind

Nail Kind has a great selection of really cool colours. I’m wearing mystery mango in the image above while clutching a mulled wine. I’m also a big fan of lounge lizard, a dark jewel green shade. They include plant-based ingredients including sugar cane and corn in the formula. The bottles are pretty, the brush is easy to use and the formula is long lasting while still being kind to nails.

Zao

I’ve been a big fan of Zao’s refillable aloe vera mascara for years so I was excited to try their nail varnish and it didn’t disappoint. The new composition is free of 10 harmful ingredients usually found in traditional nail varnish including – toluene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde resin, paraben, xylene, camphor, rosin, styrene and benzophenone. I wear Biscay Bay 676, a turquoise blue green and I also recommend their duo base and top coat.

Zoya

Zoya is another brand who are big 10 free. My favourite nail varnish at the moment is a sparkly azure blue, I’m wearing it in the image above but you might have to zoom in to see it! It’s called Elsa which I presume is a nod to the princess from Disney’s Frozen. However, it’s perfect for the Christmas and New Year party period. The glitter is plastic free and mineral based. Zoya sell lovely nail varnish gift boxes, the colour selections are always well thought out.

Kia Charlotta

Kia Charlotta is a german brand who are registered with PETA and The Vegan Society. I love the little dinky bottles and the inspiring colour names. I’ve been wearing Hustle for the past year, it’s a bright pillar box red shade. The polish is made in Germany using ingredients that are as natural as possible, up to 87% for most shades.

Nailberry

As well as being vegan and cruelty-free, Nailberry is also free of 12 harsh chemicals usually found in nail varnish. The bottle design is elegant, it looks great sitting out in the bathroom. I’ve been wearing Charleston, a beautiful baby blue. However, I’m also eyeing the raspberry shade and the new moon collection.

Benecos

Benecos have a vegan plant-based formulation, it’s free of the harshest 20 chemicals usually used in nail varnish. The colours are more traditional than some of the other brands. I really like ‘Vamp,’ a dark red wine shade. It’s a bargain at under £5!
