The best sustainable puffy coats
I’ve been wearing this huge puffy coat from Arket on repeat since the late summer. It’s filled with Re:Down which is 100% recycled down and feathers. Apparently, the recycled down and feathers are sourced from post-consumer products, sleeping bags for example. They get cleaned up and into new insulation for coats. So after freezing on the early morning dog walks I’m now warm and cosy! It’s a really long coat and has popper buttons at the side and a double zip feature as it’s difficult to walk with a long coat otherwise.
All around the world and I’ll be wearing this huge puffy coat, in fact, I was hoping to get the green one too but have just noticed it’s sold out. The shell is made from recycled nylon. I like you puffy coat.
Northface has released a long puffy coat with recycled down too. I think it’s best to wear the longer style oversized. The Northface puffy coat does come with a belt though. I like the looser fit of the Arket one. It’s so easy to throw on without really thinking about what I’m wearing. I can wear it dressed up for a night out or over PJs to run to the shop.
For a completely vegan option try Hunter. They have a long puffy coat made from recycled polyester and nylon. The black version is good but I’m coveting the urban grey. It’s water resistant which I suppose you would expect from a brand famous for its wellington boots. For more recycled polyester, try recycled fleece favourites.
Seasalt also has a long puffer coat, the Holywell bay coat is a great option. It’s made from recycled material with a tog rating of 4.5. I love that coats have a similar rating to bedding, it makes life a little more joyful! I would say the Arket coat is more of a 3 tog, so more like a summer duvet. The Seasalt coat comes in sizes up to 26/28 and two different colours – a navy blue and browny moorland shade. Sidenote: I’m in love with the inspiration behind Seasalt’s festive collection, see here. It’s a little harbour with the cutest Christmas lights.
The navy puffer coat from Superdry is also made with recycled polyester. They use material made with up to 48 plastic bottles in the coat. I really like the length, it’s longer than some of the other coats. Superdry has been making more sustainable choices in their garments recently, moving towards organic, recycled and circular materials.
Another great option is the recycled puffer coat from Thought Clothing. It comes up shorter but the model is quite tall! It’s a beautiful chestnut colour, it would definitely brighten up the winter dog walk. Thought clothes are all ethically made with workers receiving a living wage and no child labour.
Since autumn began, I’ve been wearing the Arket puffy coat most mornings. It’s been nice to walk through the town watching the seasons turn. The leaves are nearly all down from the trees and lying in huge piles for the dogs to shuffle and sniff through. The walk takes twice as long with leaves to smell! I listen to music or a podcast and use the time to try not to think too much. I’ve been listening to The Rest is Politics and The Great Indoors recently. The trainers in the images are from Veja, I love how comfy they are. They have grippy soles that are perfect for the slippy autumn leaves, I think it’s the Venturi model. The hat is from Marks and Spencer, it’s made with a portion of recycled materials but I actually just bought it when I was freezing cold one day!
