For Warm Ethical Feet!

There are now so many different companies making sustainable socks it’s difficult to choose a favourite. While I find they are more expensive than the usual high street pairs. All the ones I’ve tested are of a far higher quality and are on route to standing the test of time.
I’ve got the black vertical stripes pair (gifted and pictured above) They are so good. Made from recycled and ring-spun cotton in the USA. Hippy Feet have a range of socks for both men and women. They commit to helping the homeless get back into work by creating jobs for them. They have created 100 jobs for young homeless people in the US. These socks cost $18 and shipping includes Europe.
I’ve had a pair of Nudie socks for years and would recommend them, however, they only come in one size and that is, slightly too big for me. But fine if you are a shoe size EU 40-45! They are made from organic cotton, polyamide and elastane and are made in Portugal.
Thought has a whole sustainable sock selection on their website. They have a wide selection of socks for both men and women in various patterns and colours. The selection gets updated quite regularly so you can be sure you won’t be wearing the same socks as your mum. They have socks in bamboo, hemp, wool and organic cotton, all ethically made. Prices are around £6 a pair. Speaking of wool, how about yak wool?
While I haven’t tried socks from Swedish Stockings, I wear their tights and swear by them. Made from entirely recycled polyamide and elastane, these socks are so pretty. However, arguably the greatest take from the brand is the quality, the tights last a lifetime if treated with care. These particular socks are available in one size at a price of €16.
I’ve yet to try socks from Organic Basics, but, I have always been impressed with the quality of other garments produced by them. These particular socks are made from organic cotton, nylon and elastane and are available in three different sizes. As the name suggests, Organic Basics are great for simple designs, and not everyone wants a jazzy sock. This pair is part of a two-pack selling for €15.
I’ve been wearing the zig-zag socks (gifted and pictured above) from Kind Socks for the last couple of months. They are still as good as new and have washed up brilliantly. The socks are made of organic cotton and ethically made in India. These sustainable socks are unisex with two different sizes available and sold for €11.
Well everyone loves cat socks surely! And if not People Tree have a wide selection of other women’s socks at reasonable prices. They are comprised of 98% organic cotton and 2% elastane while being fairly made. People Tree are brilliant for giving information about the factories used to produce their garments. These particular socks were made by a family company in Turkey.
Qnoop have the ingenious idea of a button to attach the socks together before washing to ensure you never lose one. They are a Dutch company and qnoop means button in dutch! The socks are made with organic cotton with no toxic chemicals and fair working conditions for the workers. These particular socks are available in four colour and two sizes at a price of €14.95
Jollie’s have such a beautiful story. The founder wanted to help people sleeping rough and worked out the best way for him to do this was to start a sock company donating one pair of socks to the homeless for each pair he sold. From doing his research, he found out that socks were the most needed but least donated. The socks themselves are made from organic cotton, polyamide and elastane in Portugal. They are unisex and come in a variety of pleasing colours priced at around £14.
Critically Endangered Socks also have a lovely story behind the brand. Dom decided to start selling socks after seeing majestic animals struggling in the wild due to human greed. His aim is to help towards saving all critically endangered species. This pair is sold in conjunction with the WildCats Conservation Alliance to help fund the charities Amur Leopard anti-poaching initiatives and population monitoring. These sustainable socks are made from GOTS cotton and priced at £12.
‘What if socks could change the world?’ The founder of Stand 4 Socks is trying to do just that. With a pair donated to a homeless shelter for every pair sold and the socks currently supporting 11 out of 17 of the United Nations global goals. This particular pair is bamboo LGBTQ and is available in two sizes and priced at £11.99.
These made in a family-run factory in France and the yarn, which is spun in Portugal is dyed using only eco-friendly pigments. They are made using combed cotton, polyamide and elastane and are made to last. MAiKLifestyle also have other cute designs and the socks are sold at around £12.
These sustainable socks are handmade in a small workshop in England. Moreover, PerTin use GOTs certified organic cotton, ensuring it is grown and harvested through environmentally and socially responsible methods. Along with a small amount of nylon into the heel and toe area gives increased strength and durability. This style also comes in a navy stripe version and costs £15.
